Tim York

I offer tuition on a one-to-one basis at my private teaching studio, or I can come to you. The tuition can take any form you like. I have pupils that range from 6 to 65 years of age. From complete beginners to professionals, the lessons can be tailored to your aims and ability. I am DBS registered.

About Me
I'm a professional drummer and drum teacher with over 25 years experience. I've played thousands of gigs, recorded in many studios as a session drummer, and toured worldwide. I've also learned with the best teachers in the UK including legendary teachers Bob Armstrong and Clifford Jarvis. Since 2001 I've prepared students for drum exams and never had a failure. My students have gone on to, study at BIMM, ACM and Stroud college, play professionally and become teachers themselves. I'm thorough, patient and very experienced teaching children and beginners. I also have experience teaching pupils with learning difficulties. As well as this I teach music technology and can incorporate this into drum lessons if required. I've used Logic Pro and Ableton Live professionally since 2002 and I run my own recording studio and compose music.
The Studio
My purpose built teaching studio enables students to learn in a dedicated professional environment. I use Logic Pro to create practice tracks for my students, which can be provided in any format you choose, e.g. CD, mp3.
Students are given practice tracks at multiple tempos which really helps to improve timekeeping and feel. I also score charts and practice material for my students using Finale.
Mobile Lessons
I offer mobile lessons/home visits in Stroud, Dursley, Gloucester, Cheltenham and surrounding areas. I usually bring a laptop running Logic Pro to lessons so can provide a similar service as lessons in my own studio, since I have the same practice tracks on my laptop. One advantage to having mobile lessons is that I can help maintain and tune your drum kit.
